Going Backwards

Technologists have moved from serving to exploiting customers, while scholarly publisher have their own version . . .

Ted Gioia produces some interesting thought pieces. When, through sheer serendipity, one of these mirrors thoughts of one’s own — in this case, why technology seems to be getting worse by becoming more exploitative and lazily implemented — it feels validating in a very nice way.

In a recent essay entitled, “10 Reasons Why Technological Progress Is Now Reversing,” Gioia makes many compelling points. I recommend reading it.

Because I also think scholarly and scientific publishing has been headed in the wrong direction, I’ve taken some of Gioia’s points from the essay and adapted them to explain some of the reasons why scientific and scholarly publishing’s progress has been reversing.
