Foundation to stop accepting, return funds from Huawei

Last month, it came to light that what was once the Optical Society of America (OSA) — now a foundation rebranded in 2021 as Optica, complete with the Optica Publishing Group — was under Congressional scrutiny for accepting undisclosed donations from Huawei, a Chinese technology company banned from doing business in the US.

Last week, Optica announced it will no longer do business with Huawei, and will return all the money that Huawei donated for 2024 and the previous two years. Bloomberg broke the story Friday.
