Song: “Oops, I Did It Again”

A reinterpretation by a sassy singer with serious pipes gives sizzle to a simple pop song

Song: “Oops, I Did It Again”

Postmodern Jukebox is famous for its throwback arrangements of modern hits, and for making stars of singers like Haley Reinhart, featured in this reinterpretation of Britney Spears’ 2000 hit, “Oops, I Did It Again.”

Reinhart first gained prominence by placing third during Season 10 of American Idol. Her 2012 debut album Listen Up! was released to critical acclaim. She became the first American Idol alumna to perform at Lollapalooza.

Her most notable collaborations with Postmodern Jukebox include a jazz cover of Radiohead’s “Creep,” which spent 58 consecutive weeks on Billboard’s Jazz Digital Songs chart. Her cover of Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” was used in a commercial for Extra Gum, became a viral sensation, peaked at #16 on the US Adult Contemporary chart, and was later certified Platinum. Reinhart won a Cannes Lion for Entertainment and a Clio Award for the song in 2016.

Filmed live in 2018, this reinterpretation of Spears’ hit shows what a talented singer and stage performer Reinhart is, and how a reinterpretation like this can make a rather pedestrian pop hit into an entertaining, sultry, and silly clambake of pure musical sass and goodness.

It also makes you realize how cool it must have been to have seen truly top-notch performers live in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, when this style of music ruled the roost.

Enjoy!
