The JISC-Elsevier Deal
Published agreement has main element redacted, contains errors
Last week, JISC and Elsevier announced a new transformative agreement focused on ScienceDirect. The deal has been applauded as saving the UK library market significant money over the coming years, while enabling a transition to OA publishing for authors who might have found APCs or other transactional barriers difficult to surmount.
Despite the transformative nature posited, subscriptions remain central, Elsevier’s bargaining power remains impressive, and errors in the version of the agreement shared make it difficult to analyze financial or quality requirements.
